How we make money

Sponsored placement policy

We disclose every paid relationship and keep it separate from editorial rankings. Here is exactly how that works.

What companies can pay for

  • Claimed profiles — verify and enrich a listing with details, hours, and photos.
  • Enhanced profiles — expanded content and a direct contact path.
  • Sponsored directory placements — increased visibility in the directory, clearly labeled.
  • Call tracking and quote requests — lead routing, disclosed to users.
  • Category sponsorships and advertising — labeled ad units.

What money cannot buy

  • The #1 editorial ranking, or any change to editorial rank.
  • Removal of a competitor.
  • A fabricated rating, review, or credential.
  • A self-written editorial review.

How paid placements are labeled

Sponsored directory listings carry a "Sponsored" label and a note that paid status does not affect editorial rankings. Paid outbound links use rel="sponsored" where appropriate. On the directory, sponsored listings may appear higher within the directory's own ordering, but that is separate from the editorial guide on the homepage.

Sample label: "Sponsored listing: This company paid for enhanced visibility in the directory. Sponsored status does not affect our editorial rankings."

Quote requests and lead routing

If you submit a quote request, the companies that receive it may be paid partners. We disclose this at the point of submission. We do not claim to have chosen the single "best" plumber for your specific situation unless a real, disclosed matching process exists, and we collect only the information needed to route your request.
